Primary functions of the University of A Coruña Social Council

Organic Law 6/2001, of 21 December 2001, on Universities and Law 6/2013, of 13 June 2013, on the Galician University System attribute to the social councils of public universities a wide range of functions related to the supervision and control of university activities and the promotion of university-society relations. Among them, due to their importance for society and for the university, are the following:

Supervising the economic activities of the University of A Coruña. Specifically, it is responsible for approving, by proposal of the Governing Council, the UDC budget and annual accounts, as well as approving and monitoring the university's multi-annual programming.
Reporting on the staff and the teaching, research and administration and services positions at the University of A Coruña, as well as reporting on the collective bargaining agreements for contracted staff.
Approving the creation, substantial modification or termination of companies, foundations or other entities in whose capital or assets the University has a stake, whatever legal form they may adopt, as well as their integration into the same.
Agreeing, with the Rector, under the terms provided for in the organic legislation on universities, on the appointment and removal of the person in charge of management.
Supervising the performance and quality of university services, making suggestions and proposals to the university's governing council, where appropriate, aimed at promoting excellence in teaching, research, management and services.
Setting the prices of its own teaching, specialisation courses and other activities authorised by the universities, as well as reporting on public prices for official university studies, within the limits established by the General Conference on University Policy.

Reporting on the agreements of the Governing Council regarding the implementation and removal of courses of study leading to the award of official university degrees, valid throughout Spain, as well as the creation, modification and suppression of centres, university research institutes or any other form they may take.
Promoting actions that bring university students closer to the demands of the labour market and, in particular, signing agreements between the university and other public and private entities, aimed at completing the training of university students and graduates and facilitating their ties to the business world.
Stimulating university research activity, especially with regard to its ties to the productive sectors, supporting R&D+i projects shared between the university, companies and the social structures, as well as policies for the transfer and dissemination of the results obtained from university research.
Organising all sorts of activities and events that favour mutual knowledge and the collaboration of society in the financing of teaching and research at UDC.
Carrying out studies to adapt the offer of degrees and the content of the UDC curricula to social needs and to facilitate the employment of university graduates and the transfer to society of the results of the research carried out at UDC.

Supporting the implementation of the European Higher Education Area at UDC, adapting the academic offer to the needs of society.
Promoting best practices in organisational culture, good governance and transparent and efficient management at UDC in response to social needs and demands.
Promoting entrepreneurial culture at UDC as a general or cross-cutting professional competence that is key to the fulfilment of UDC's mission in the promotion of economic and social development.
Approving and updating a Strategic Action Plan and the Service Commitment, and publishing the Annual Report of activities.

Maintaining an updated website where all relevant information on the Social Council and its activities is published.
Promoting the organisation of all sorts of events, including awards, distinctions and recognitions, that favour mutual knowledge and interrelation between UDC and society.
Promoting closer ties between UDC and companies, particularly by encouraging university students to complete work experience programmes in companies and by creating University-Business Chairs.
Promoting the international projection of UDC through collaborative networks within the framework of the European Higher Education Area.
